Since 1992, Kynt has been possibly the only New Orleans artist recording and performing electronic house music. A rocky childhood in foster homes compelled Kynt to sneak out at night to dance at gay French Quarter clubs. The music there inspired him toward his own original house compositions, several of which have found their way onto European top-ten dance lists, compilation by the likes of EMI Germany and the turntables of dance music gods Junior Vasquez and Roger Sanchez. After several years away from music, The Whole World Is a Stage is Kynt’s first proper album.
In house music, we’re used to the singer having as much import as the keyboards, and not as much as the bass drum. Here, Kynt is clearly the star, front and center. He considers these to be songs more than tracks, which is why they have twice as many lyrics as your average house music. And Kynt wants credit for writing these songs; his stylized, futuristic face is splashed across his album and its accompanying PR. He is a Loyola University-trained dancer, and his live shows focus on this skill. In the end, he has more in common with Michael Jackson than most faceless electronic artists.
Kynt really is doing something unique in bringing the New Orleans tradition of live and raw musical performance onto a more modern dance floor. He obviously—and admirably—doesn’t use Auto-Tune. But as a result, his organic voice sometimes sounds out of place over completely inorganic, borderline cold techno. The pitch-perfection of the tracks sometimes highlights imperfections in Kynt’s voice in a way that a live band would not. He does manage to turn a few aerobicized dance tracks into something more special than we’re used to from the genre, but his unadorned voice—which could be likened at times to a hype Stevie Wonder—sounds better paired with the album’s forays into drum-n-bass and especially slower electronic R&B.
On paper, Kynt’s music is exactly what we claim to want from techno: a little more soul, more humanity, a little less plastic sheen. As talented and brave as Kynt certainly is, in the end his music may be too much like conventional techno for fans of pop songs, but too real for those who want to dance without so much human interference. But if you’re open-minded and love techno and pop, Kynt might provide your answer.
Loyola's graduates are known for numerous accomplishments. AlumnusKenneth Bryan '99 (a.k.a. KYNT) is no exception to the standard. International chart-topping vocalist, model, and top-notch performer are just a few accolades on his resume. He's worked with industry giants such as producers Klubjumpers and Cesar Vilo and receives airplay in South America and Europe. Now he can add a record deal with Jerome Farley's Continuous Cool Records to the list.A native New Orleanian, KYNT cites his upbringing and college experience as contributors to his success."I knew I wanted to sing after seeing the Rhythm Nation tour," he says. "Some of my biggest influences are Janet [Jackson], Michael [Jackson], and Whitney [Houston]."While in foster care at the Methodist Home, KYNT was allowed to sing only if his grades were good, giving him more motivation. Once he arrived at Loyola, he discovered his love for dance."I was looking for a three-credit class to fill my schedule," he says. "Gayle Parmelee approached me about taking a ballet class and I decided to do it."KYNT credits Loyola's dance program for teaching him dedication and loyalty. "We live in such a competitive environment," he says. "Dance taught me artistry…gave me confidence in teaching and other things I needed to succeed."As an alumnus, KYNT is still an active member of the dance community. He has returned as a guest artist and taught Hip-Hop classes on campus.KYNT's latest album, The Whole World Is A Stage, was released on iTunes in November 2011. His newest single, "Right Now!," was released worldwide March 8, 2012, under Continuous Cool. Singles "One Day," "Snake Charmer," and "Never Let You Go" have made a splash on the music scene as well.

Kynt The Whole World is a Stage Kynt Records
Loyola dance instructor Kenneth “Kynt” Bryan has crafted a highly danceable world music album reflective of his style in the dance and music world. Kynt’s The Whole World is a Stage brings driving effects with warped synth, drum pads galore and Kynt’s signature warble. One of the strong points of the album actually proves to be Kynt’s understated vocals. “Rhythm is Gonna Get You” does more with Kynt’s echoey, distant voice than the flurry of effects that surround the main riff. The Whole World is a Stage plays pretty comprehensively, each beat leading into the other, though there are occasional misses. “Snake Charmer” is a bit overdone, with effects careening into each other rather than complementing the track. Overall, Kynt’s latest foray into music is a solid groove and definitely something to dance to.—April Siese

Electronic house music is not New Orleans' best known export. Kenneth Bryan, known as Kynt, may be New Orleans' only documented male house singer.
"My version of house is repetitious but complex," Kynt says. "It's vocal, tribal, with full choruses, storylines and plots based on my personal experiences." Unlike many artists, says Kynt, "I write and sing songs."
Kynt also is a trained dancer. He studied ballet at Loyola University. That training gives him something many electronic artists lack: stage presence.
"My shows are full of real singing and dancing," he says. "And big elaborate costume changes."
Bryan had a rocky childhood and lived at Father Flanagan's Boys' Town. He was a drum major and choreographer for his high school marching band, and he snuck out at night to go to now-defunct black, gay dance clubs. On the dance floor he discovered himself and his talents.
In 1992, Kynt began recording and performing his own high-energy dance music, mixing house with a little R&B.
Kynt was one of the first MP3.com artists to reach No. 1 on its charts. Inclusion on a compilation by EMI Germany led to prominent use by DJs Junior Vasquez and Roger Sanchez, who spun Kynt's underground hits including "Show Da DJ Some Luv," "Adrenaline" and "Makes Me Hot." Following the success of those songs, Kynt moved to New York, but it wasn't the perfect fit he expected.
"I found it was easier to do all my music here in New Orleans and then just fly up there," he says.
After he returned home, Kynt learned a hard lesson about the competitive nature of the business.
"I had gone to Brazil to record five demo songs," he says. "Soon after, (Brazilian duo) Altar and Jeanie Tracey re-recorded one of those songs, 'Party People,' without my permission." The song hit the Billboard charts, and found its way onto more than 20 compilations. "It was like watching my dream come true, but for someone else," he says. "And that really made me reclusive for a while."
Kynt settled down in New Orleans as a ballet and hip-hop dance instructor at the Lighthouse for the Blind, as well as for Loyola University, New Orleans Ballet Association and several other organizations.
"I purposefully tried to keep myself out of music, for healing purposes," he says. "I didn't want to perform at all."
Only recently has Kynt, now 36, returned to the stage for performances at Oz and a benefit show at The Howlin' Wolf. Kynt will perform several shows in November to celebrate his self-released comeback album The Whole World is a Stage.
